Arete (Greek) refers to the functioning excellence of
a thing.

The idea for designing a floor covering using the
hand gun as a source pattern is based on the
proliferation and publicity of urban violence involving
hand guns in major US cities.  A tool to enact a
violent crime transforms into a beautiful cascading
pattern.
